Egg Nog, Mistletoe, Sugar Plum Fairies in a Row
GENRE: Jazz: Jazz Vocals
RELEASE DATE: 2005
In a way that Sinatra, Bennett or Andy Williams would want to sing it, the title track to "Egg Nog, Mistletoe, Sugarplum Fairies in a Row" Tony Monaco (2005), the Jazz crooner's first yuletide offering, is a novelty Christmas song that will have your youngster singing along with parents and friends. Based on the concept of “Happy Birthday, Jesus” this album presents a wonderful gift of love, hope and happiness for the holidays and throughout the year!
I’m sitting at my computer wondering how to convey to you what a miracle this album is for me. Of course, the word ‘miracle’ can mean different things to different people and we’d all like to have one; like winning the lottery and becoming a millionaire. But then again the man who made the word ‘miracle’ synonymous with His life said, “What profits a man if he gains the world, but loses his soul?”
I had a vacation scheduled sometime in October. But a co-worker asked if I would mind switching dates with his starting August 5th, as he and his wife had something planned at my vacation time. It seemed fine to me. My last album, “If You Were God,” was released the first of the year and I had no plans to do another until next year.
I no sooner said, “Yes,” when the thought came. It would be a perfect time to do a Christmas album. But I didn’t even have one song, just a thought about Christmas really being happy birthday for Jesus.
“Happy Birthday, Jesus!” became the first song out of nowhere. Because I don’t read, write or play music I sang it to my arranger Keith Droste who transcribed it to paper. But I had little, if no, faith that any more would come. They did as you can hear, sometimes three in one day. I was singing them on the phone to Keith while I was at work. “Be of good cheer, Keith…that’s what He said. In the world you will have tribulation, but BE OF GOOD CHEER. I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD.”
For all of us at this desperate time in the world, we need to be encouraged. I believe God knew you would be reading this if I would trust, that stepping out onto the water He would be the support and supplier of my mustard seed faith. So maybe you, too, will believe that all our “Holidays” are very, very special days and the Lord God cares for you and your loved ones in very, very special ways.
